They're Not Just for Santa...

No, not spandex waistbands (though I am a fan)

LISTS!!

I make lists for EVERYTHING.

I love lists. LOVE THEM! They are life savers particularly when I feel I am being pulled in a million directions.

The human brain is not designed to hold lists of random things. How many times have you gone to the grocery store and completely forgot the item you went to the store for in the first place!?

For me, when I have a mental to do list I end up playing it over and over in my head. It's hard for me to focus on the task I am trying to accomplish and I feel overwhelmed by all the work I have ahead of me.

When I make a list, I can let that mental loop go and often times, I realize that everything I need to accomplish is completely attainable.

...plus I love the satisfaction of checking something off my list.

Pro-Tip: When I make lists, I try to group like tasks together (send all my emails one after the other, run errand is a loop that makes the most sense, make all my phone calls etc). It's more productive and it's easier on your brain. It takes more brain power to jump from different kind of tasks; let your brain stay in the same 'mode' and not have to take the time and energy to switch back and forth.
